Profile:

Marewrew is a female vocal group dedicated to reviving and preserving the traditional Ainu song "Upopo". Their performances faithfully recreate the unique rhythms and circular chants, characteristic of Ainu roots, featuring a natural trance-like sensation.

Their activities gained momentum after the release of their debut mini-album MAREWREW in 2010. They collaborated on SPECIAL OTHERS' album SPECIAL OTHERS with the Ainu traditional song Iyomante-Upopo. Marewrew appeared on NHK (E-Tele) popular children's program "Nihongo de Asobo" and performed at the music festival "LIVE MAGIC!" organized by Peter Barakan in November 2015. They also gained attention internationally, performing at the renowned world music festival WOMAD in Europe and other European tours.

In August 2012, they released their highly anticipated full album Motto Ite, Hissori ne. This album, which encapsulates the allure of traditional "Upopo" while incorporating modern arrangements, received high praise from various quarters.

In April 2016, they released Cikapuni, a compilation of all the tracks from their first mini-album re-recorded with bonus tracks. In the fall of 2016, they were involved in providing music for NHK (E-Tele) program "Otona no Ikkyu-san" produced by Yoshihide Otomo.

"Marewrew" means "butterfly" in the Ainu language.
