Profile:
A folk singer and taiko drummer who shares Japan's traditional music, “Minyo”, with the world through her unique style of singing while playing the taiko drum.
Born to Shakuhachi player, Chikurei Kizu, she has been active in Minyo programs and stages since childhood. In 1997, she represented Japan as a solo performer at an international music festival held in the ancient city of Samarkand, Uzbekistan, where she carried the taiko drum and received a special award from the judges. This marked the beginning of her solo performances.
In 2002, she released a duo album titled "Tsuru to Kame" with the renowned Tsugaru shamisen master Katsuaki Sawada from Victor Entertainment. Naming their unit same "Tsuru to Kame", they have released three albums together. She was also responsible for performing "Awa Odori" for synchronized swimming at the Athens Olympics in 2004. Since 2011, she has been regularly holding solo concerts and has performed in dozens of countries worldwide. Not confined to any genre, she has collaborated and recorded with jazz and pop artists such as Haruomi Hosono and Akira Sakata and has been active in commercial music and movie soundtrack performances. She is also dedicated to promoting minyo, forming the "Morisha Group" for practice and performance activities, and regularly holding open practices.
On October 8, 2014, she released her first full album, SHIGERI BUSHI. In July 2015, she collaborated with Yasuyuki Okamura as "Shiegeri Kizu x Yasuyuki Okamura", and their re-produced single Tokyo Ondo TOKYO RHYTHM was released.
