【Artist Profiles】

1. Sabale / Boom Pam

Boom Pam is a surf guitar band based in Jaffa, a port town in southern Tel Aviv. Led by guitarist Uri Browner Kinrot (UBK), formerly of BBB, they infuse surf rock with Greek, Balkan, and Middle Eastern music, energizing parties with their unique sound. Alongside this CD release, their 2010 third album, Alakazam, will also be released in Japan.

2. Hijazz Chaser Remix / BTA Vs. UBK

BTA, a trio formed by saxophonist Eyal Talmudi, who previously collaborated with UBK in BBB, blends Arab classical music with Balkan festival music. This track features a remix by UBK.

3. Losing It (Featuring Karolina) / Kutiman

Kutiman is an audio and visual hip-hop artist who creates entirely new songs by mashing up amateur and professional music performance videos found on YouTube. His latest work, "Thru Tokyo", released globally in October, features recordings made during his summer 2012 stay in Tokyo, with collaborations from HIFANA, Akihito Nakajima, and Chinza DOPENESS.

4. Computers Singing (Alfomega Remix) / Radio Trip

Radio Trip, comprising sound engineer Uri "Mixmonster" Wertheim and turntablist Ophir "Schoolmaster" Tal, is the one who supports the Israeli music scene. They collaborated with Black Wax from Miyako Island, mixing their latest album Bangumuri. Their style is a mixture of jazz and funk.

5. Thang / The Apples

The Apples, a nine-member jazz-funk band consisting of a horn section, drums, bass, and two DJs, boasts a 1970s jazz-funk sound with occasional Arabic phrases, reflecting Israel's musical diversity. Radio Trip's two members are also part of the band.

6. Voyage To The Sun / The Koliphones

The Koliphones is a collaboration between Kutiman and a Moog synthesizer player, featuring Mixmonster as the engineer. Kutiman, in addition to manipulating computers, is a multi-instrumentalist who can play every instrument in his home studio.

7. Soleil Couchant / Les Hippies

Les Hippies, led by DJ Markey Funk, is a shapeless unit featuring sitar and reminiscent of late 1960s raga rock with breakbeats.

8. Lo Avater Al Atzmi / Uzi Navon And Acquaintances

Uzi Navon & Acquaintances is a large band with a 1960s soul sound led by the characteristically unpopular Uzi Navon. Are they the "Israeli funk in Japan"?

The Ramírez Brothers, formed by former Boom Pam central figure and guitarist/singer-songwriter Uzi Fainelman, continue to produce lo-fi Americana music. Mixmonster handled the mixing.

10. Today's Funk / Soulico

11. Tni Li Hizdamnut / Yoram Arbel

Only two artists from the 1970s are featured on this compilation album. Yoram Arbel, a male singer considered Israel's first yé-yé" or "mod" singer in the 1970s, remains well-known as a TV presenter. After the release of this compilation album, he appeared at a music festival in Jerusalem, performing alongside The Apples.

12. Back Road Funk / Funk'n'stein

The eight-member Funk'n'stein, named after Parliament's album "Clones of Dr Funkenstein," is a remarkable stage presence and a popular P-Funk group in Israel. Their influences include Afrobeat, and their official website includes detailed character settings for each member, a P-Funk tradition.

13. Tosha Baritosha (Edit) / Marsh Dondurma

Marsh Dondurma, a 15-member brass and rhythm section ensemble, combines Jewish festival music such as klezmer and Balkan music with Afro-Brazilian rhythms. They have also guested at the Trumpet Summit in Gucha, Serbia, known for the world's best brass bands. Are they the "Israel Shibusa Shirazu"?

14. Hashish / Boom Pam Vs. Radio Trip
