Formed in 1979 by Malian refugee Ibrahim Ag Alhabib, Tinariwen is an internationally acclaimed act that addresses issues such as political awakening, exile, oppression, and demands for sovereignty.
They have even won a Grammy Award. Following their well-received album Aman Iman released in 2007, this is the first vinyl release of their fourth album, which was released in 2009.
Since their debut album, The Radio Tisdas Sessions in 2001, this album, produced once again by Jean-Paul Romann, blends the agitation-propelled Tuareg desert blues of Mali with sharp guitar work, creating a completely unique sound.
Described by The Guardian as having “supple, rhythmic guitar lines and bluesy riffs, this album maintains the band's signature style but with a lighter setting, leaning more towards desert folk music”.
