Renowned treasure of the Okinawan folk music scene, Misako Ōshiro, and UA's long-admired masterpiece Utai Umui are finally receiving a long-awaited vinyl release.

The album Utai Umui, released in 2007 by the legendary figure of the Okinawan folk music scene, Misako Ōshiro at the age of 84 in January of this year, is now being released in LP format. Produced by the renowned engineer Kikou Uehara, known for his work with artists such as Yumi Yoshimura, Electric Groove, and Fishmans, the album was conceptualized and created over three years with the theme of "Okinawan folk music standards for younger generations". 

This album features an illustrious lineup of collaborators, including the esteemed figures who have nurtured and led the Okinawan folk music scene alongside her, such as Sadao China who was considered by the late Rinsho Kadekaru as his closest successor, and Ryoichi Nagoro, a leading figure in Okinawan theater who dedicated himself to its development.

With tracks like "Nuchibana", "Ayagu-bushi", "Hakuun-bushi", and the Okinawan folk music standard "Tinsagu nu Hana" sung by her accompanied only by vocals, Sanshin, and Ryukyu koto, the album has a simple presentation as an answer of her when she creates new one of Okinawan music. 

By eschewing traditional recording methods and steadfastly pursuing the essence of Okinawan folk music, Misako Ōshiro has created a collection of songs that Everyone could find distinctly hers when once listened to, and represent the ongoing evolution of Okinawan folk music, resonating with listeners as the finest form of world music originating from the Ryukyu Islands.

The jacket photo was taken by photographer Hiroshi Nirei, and for the vinyl release, careful consideration has been given to the selection of tracks and their sequence, resulting in a meticulously curated album. Utai Umui stands as a testament to Misako Ōshiro's mastery as a musician, leaving a lasting impression.
