It has been decided to release a 2-disc analog LP that includes the omnibus album OZ DAYS LIVE recorded in 1973 at the live house "OZ" in Kichijoji, Tokyo, and unreleased material that was not included in it at the time. This album was remastered from the original analog tape by Makoto Kubota and officially recognized by <The Last One Musique>, which holds the legal rights to the Rally's sound source.
It comes with a booklet containing liner notes by Minoru Tezuka (OZ manager/later Rallizes manager), rare photos from the time, raft board sleeve, Tuff Beats Online Store exclusive merch: color "obi" (limited).
The live house "OZ", which opened in 1972 on the second floor of a building near Kichijoji Station, is a rock cafe with a messy, handmade feel. Although it existed for only 1 year and 3 months, during its short existence, "OZ" had become the center of Tokyo's rapidly growing underground and counterculture. It was a special place where not only musicians but also unique people gathered.
One of OZ's featured groups was the Les Rallizes Dénudés, a psychedelic noise band from Kyoto.
This legendary band, led by the mysterious leader Takashi Mizutani, was one of the earliest bands OZ booked and had kept performing till OZ LAST DAYS which was organized in the wake of OZ's closure. they had appeared in a series of live performances entitled "The Live Series," a raucous five-day event celebrating OZ's short-lived but wonderful world.
The sound source recorded at the OZ on that last days was released as a self-produced 2-LP set called OZ DAYS LIVE. The four songs included in it are created respetively by Miyakochi, Acid Seven, Masato Minami, Taj Mahal Travel Group, and Les Rallizes Dénudés. Although there were one part of the recorded at that time, this work remains the only official analog LP featuring Rallizes sound until today.
And now, The OZ Tapes, we can finally hear it all.
These recordings, left on Scotch reel to reel, remained dormant for almost half a century.
This remastered work reveals Rallizes's most irrepressible, experimental, delicate, and beautiful. The duality of Takashi Mizutani is what determined the band's legacy.
Listening to The OZ Tapes entirely will help you unravel some of Rallizes's hazy history.
Of course, even if it's the sound source from an apparently innocent era still vibrant with life that hints to the lister of them the volatile and unexplored world that Mizutani would drag the band into later on.
