In November 1972, the live recording of Murahachibu's performance at the Keio University Mita Festival's Eve outdoor stage was finally being released on vinyl for the first time, remastered by Makoto Kubota!
On November 23, 1972, the live performance for the Mita Festival's eve at Keio University took place on two stages: one set up in a classroom and another outdoor stage in the courtyard. The classroom stage featured artists like Maki Asakawa, while the outdoor stage included acts like Zunou Keisatsu, with Murahachibu closing the show.
Approximately 300 people, including students and politically inclined groups, packed the venue. The atmosphere was tense, with intoxicated spectators storming the stage and stones and Molotov cocktails being thrown. After Zunou Keisatsu's performance, it was finally Murahachibu's turn.
As the staff debated whether to continue the live show due to the dangerous atmosphere, Fujio took to the stage with his guitar. The other members quickly followed, and the
performance began. Fujio later testified that choosing the slow song "Kutabirete" as the opening track was intended to cool down both the band and the audience.
During the performance of "Nigero," vocalist Char-bo shouted at the audience, likely addressing those throwing stones at the stage. Amid the chaos, Char-bo improvised the lyrics "Reset everything in the world, reset both right and left" during "Doraneko." His intense look and sharp performance, despite being in his early twenties, incited the riotous crowd. This recording, made amidst the tumultuous audience, is a rare capture of the event, avoiding colliding with the unruly spectators.
The original 2000 release used a master mixed from two different recordings. For the 2019 reissue, a well-preserved copy tape of the damaged sections of the main tape was discovered. The existing master tape was digitized anew, damaged sections were repaired, and the mix with other recordings was re-edited.
For this first vinyl release, the 2019 reissue master was used, remastered by Makoto Kubota, who testified to being profoundly impacted by experiencing the live show that day.
